Scope of Work

The equipment was required by our client to produce sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach) at it’s Brisbane plant. The material of construction was titanium Grade II.

APMS’s scope of work included carrying out detailed mechanical design calculations (including finite element analysis), the preparation of detailed drawings, material procurement, fabrication, NDT, hydrotesting, surface treatment and the preparation of full traceability quality documentation. The vessel was 1.2m diameter x 5m long x 1 tonne weight.

Fabrication

The vessel was fabricated in accordance with AS1210/AS1200. It included an extensive array of titanium internals, including distributers, tray supports and reactor beds.

Project Achievements

  • Zero recordable incidents or accidents throughout the duration of the project.
  • APMS provided a comprehensive project management service. All activities were managed to the satisfaction of the client with minimal intervention.
  • Specialised internals sourced and fitted to the vessel prior to delivery.
  • APMS again demonstrated the ability to successfully deliver products fabricated from exotic materials.

Key Activities

The success of the project was dependant on the successful execution of the following activities:

Fabrication:

  • Detailed mechanical design to AS1210 and verification.
  • Finite element analysis review.
  • Resolution of technical queries prior to completion of detailed drawings.
  • 3D modelling and preparation of Autocad and detail drawings.
  • Material procurement (including specialised internal components)
  • Workshop fabrication
  • Coded Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Flux Cored Arc (FCAW) welding to AS3992.
  • Fabrication in accordance with AS1210/AS1200.
  • Successful NDT (PT) and hydrotesting.
  • Glass bead blasting of the external surface of the Reactor.
  • 100% material and weld traceability.
  • Coordination of multiple subcontractors including non-destructive testing (NDT), hydro testing and surface treatment.
  • Liaise with the client to ensure Manufacturers Data Report (MDR) contained the information required for future reference including as built information and drawing updates
