VALUE

$500k to $1.0 Million

Scope of Work

This project involved assistance with the design review, preparation of detailed drawings, procurement of materials, manufacture, testing, surface treatment (externally and internally), internal rubber lining, delivery to site and installation of six Deslimes Cyclone Distributers. Each Distributor was 2.4m diameter x 2m high and weighed 4 tonnes.

The Distributers were required by our client for a substantial process improvement project. The installation was scheduled to take a maximum of 14 days and scheduled to coincide with a planned shutdown.

Project Resourcing

The project team included:

  • Project Management
  • Quality Management
  • Project Supervision (Workshop and Site)
  • Boilermaking and Coded Welding Personnel during fabrication.
  • Boilermaking, Coded Welding, Advanced Rigging and Mechanical Fitting Personnel during site installation.
  • Surface treatment, NDT, rubber lining and machining subcontracts during fabrication.
  • Cranage, scaffolding and rigging subcontracts during site installation.

Fabrication

Fabrication of the Distributers was to AS4100, with welding in accordance with AS1554.1. In addition compliance was required with several client Specifications. All welds were subject to 10% MPI inspection. The units were then painted and rubber lined prior to delivery to site for installation.

Project Achievements

The Distributers were completed without accident or incident to the required technical and quality standards and on budget. The vessels were installed without incident and our client provided positive feedback on the quality of the end product and professionalism of our project team throughout the project.

  • Zero recordable incidents or accidents throughout the duration of the project.
  • Extensive interaction with our client to ensure timely resolution of numerous technical issues.
  • Successful application of 6 to 12mm Shore 50 rubber lining confirmed by compliance with holiday detection, durometer and magnetic thickness gauge testing. This was essential to ensure the Distributors performed to their designed life-expectancy.
  • APMS coordinated inductions, onsite permits, pre-start meetings, THA documentation in line with the client’s requirements.

Key Activities

The success of the project was dependant on the successful execution of the following activities:

  • Constructability review with the client.
  • Preparation of Autocad drawings.
  • Material procurement.
  • Coded welding to AS1554.1.
  • Fabrication in accordance with AS4100.
  • Successful NDT (10% MPI/visual inspection).
  • Surface treatment internal and externally.
  • Application of internal rubber lining.
  • Delivery to site.
  • Final installation of the Distributers and fitting of proprietary cyclone separator units.
  • 100% material and weld traceability.
  • Coordination of multiple fabrication subcontractors including non-destructive testing (NDT), blasting & painting, rubber lining and logistics arrangements.
  • Coordination of multiple site subcontractors including cranage, scaffolding and rigging.
  • Liaise with the client to ensure Manufacturers Data Report (MDR) contained the information required for future reference including as built information and drawing updates.
